Whatsapp Will Soon Bring Advertisements To Make Money. Your Status Will Be Used For Ads?

Ever since Whatsapp has been bought by the tech giant Facebook, there have been some changes or the other always revolving around the instant messaging app.

It has now come to our notice that WhatsApp could start accommodating advertisements soon, in the upcoming future. This news pops up after the parent company, Facebook has decided to not surface ads on the instant messaging app, which has over 150 crore users worldwide.

In 2018, the California based company announced that rather than showing ads directly on its platform, Whatsapp would take use of its ‘Whatsapp Status’ updates to serve and showcase paid content. Such a feature is also shared by Instagram and Facebook stories.

Even though Facebook isn’t very comfortable about rolling advertisements on the Whatsapp platform readily, it has for now admittedly suspended the whole process to serve ads, which it believes could antagonize regulators.

Speaking about the model of advertisement, it has come to light that Facebook will use phone numbers as the determiners to “match” Facebook and WhatsApp accounts and serve targeted ads to users.

In January 2019, Zuckerberg mentioned that he plans to combine the messaging platforms, Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. He said that the process would take time  and wouldn’t get official until at least 2020.

This automatically suggests that possibly until the merger happens, there wouldn’t be any development towards Whatsapp ads.

Whatsapp Ads are a Sure Thing!

Last year at the annual Facebook Marketing Summit in the Netherlands, Facebook showcased how Whatsapp Status could be a smart place to monetise the platform with advertisements, just like how ads are served through Instagram Stories since January 2017.

Even though Facebook has not very clearly stated its  plans to sell ads directly on WhatsApp, the company has revealed that the ads through Whatsapp status will be a sure thing and would launch sometime this year.
